What do you think of foreign charities?

From feed the children outfits to doctors without borders, why is so much attention paid and energy/money spent on these foreign efforts when there are still hungry, homeless children without health care right here in the U.S.? I think we should take care of our own first, as worthy as the external charities may be.

How can you find out what charities make good use of their donation money?

Thanks jcravens. By efficient I mean the ratio of admin and fundraising expensed do not exceed about 75 to 80 % of total expenses. I like to see at least 80 cents on each dollar go to help the issue I’d like to help. I’ve worked with charitynavigator.org, I’ll check out guidestar. Thanks again!

I have recently retired and the income now is far less than desireable. The charities I used to give to I no longer am able to. BUT they must have given my name and address to all the others. I am getting hit by almost every charity there is and I just can’t do it any longer.
